August 12, 2023, was the night Disney came to town in Gallman, Mississippi for the Copiah Animal Shelter MICKEY GALA Fundraiser. Crystal Springs, MS Mayor Sally Garland and Tomato Queen Lindsay Willets greeted everyone at the door. Children were given autograph books and pens courtesy of Lindsey Claire Dance Studios and Calah Channell at Gray Daniels Nissan North. Mickey and Minnie Mouse and over 30 characters, and professional princesses courtesy of Enchanting Memories, signed autographs and posed for pictures. Little boys were delighted to meet Spider-man, and Captain America of Marvel fame.
Villains included the Queen of Hearts, Ursula, Snow White’s Evil Queen, Captain Hook, Maleficent and Cruella de Vil. Princesses included Ariel, Jasmine, Tiana, Elsa, Anna, Belle, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Merida. Other Cast members were as varied as Mowgli from the Jungle Book, Hercules, and Tinkerbell.
Copiah Animal Shelter/Crystal Springs Tomato Pooch, BEAU, made an appearance dressed as the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. Quite the opposite of a beast, Beau charmed everyone with his lovable self. Costume prizes were awarded. Guests played games - Disney Bingo and Name That Movie. Meg, Elsa, Rapunzel and Tiana all did musical numbers; fans were invited on the stage to sing with them. There were two beautiful renditions of Let it Go. Bless your Heart Catering Co. provided services for a spaghetti dinner, followed by a delicious charcuterie board. Bakers from all over the county were enlisted to donate the multitude of cupcakes for dessert.
Table designs were outstanding this year. Decorators included Nan Harris and Kelly Wells of Chautauqua Garden Club, Ginnie Kergoisen, Nathan Deaton, Sarah Hunt, Wendy Gould, Janice Buckley, Laurie Williams, Shelly Batista of In Bloom Nursery Garden & Gifts, Melissa Hood of The Heirloom Flea Market and Vendor Mall, Kathy Friday and AK Events. Amid stiff competition, the winning Table design went to Sarah Hunt for her Alice in Wonderland Table. Sarah won a $50 gift card donated by Shivers Fish House.
Guests enjoyed bidding on many wonderful, donated items in both the Silent Auction, Raffle, and special Toy Auction, all helping raise money for Copiah Animal Shelter. The evening finished with an epic Star Wars Show courtesy of Seth, Cash and Grant Hunt and a Fantasmic! Parade for all children and Cast members.
Many people contributed to the success of this fundraiser event; too many to list here. Thank you to all who baked, cooked, cleaned, set up, took down, designed, dressed up, donated, sponsored a table, attended, and bid in Auctions.
Special THANK YOU and RECOGNITION to Volunteer GALA Chairman, Laurie Williams, for her creativity and outstanding work!
It has been a trying time for all of us as prices escalate and living gets more and more expensive. Donation-funded businesses like the Shelter are especially vulnerable and hard hit during economic downturns. The GALA Fundraiser is crucial to keeping Copiah Animal Shelter afloat, plus a lot of fun for people to gather with a unified mission to help homeless animals.
Looking forward to GALA 2024!
